Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has already been told that one academy star is destined to be better than club legend Wayne Rooney.

Rooney will forever be remembered as one of the best players England have ever produced.

The former player spent the prime years of his career at United, winning five Premier Leagues and one UEFA Champions League among other trophies.

Rooney was once England's record goalscorer before being overtaken by Harry Kane.

Looking ahead, United have already been told that one academy star could be as good as, if not better, than Rooney.

Manchester United academy star tipped to be better than Wayne Rooney

MMA star Ibragim Ibragimov currently has three brothers who play for United's youth teams and has picked out 16-year-old Amir as the one to watch.

Speaking to Sun Sport recently, Ibragimov said: "My brother is the next big thing, I've already said that to everybody. He's ready for the first team, he just needs the chance. Once he gets the chance, Inshallah he will make it, 100 per cent this year.

"They are comparing him to Wayne Rooney, so he's going to be the next Wayne Rooney. A better version than Wayne Rooney."

Aside from Amir, 15-year-old Gazik and Muhammad, aged 12, are also playing for United's youth teams and have been tipped to have a big future.

Ibragimov added: "They need young fresh blood. They need more academy players. They have a lot of academy players at the moment, really good, like dark horses and they're on the bench.

"Some of the guys on the bench already, some of the guys are playing for the academy, they got a good team. So yeah, hopefully they have youngsters play for the first team and then they'll show the levels of Manchester."

Who is Amir Ibragimov?

Born in Russia in 2008, Amir Ibragimov started his youth career at Sheffield United before joining the Red Devils.

After captaining both United's U14 and U15 sides, Amir went on to sign his first pre-scholarship deal in August 2022.

Since then, the 16-year-old has represented the club's U16 and U18 teams before training with the first team in April 2023. He then started for the first team during a behind-closed-doors friendly against Burnley in January 2024.

Amir has also played for England's U15 and U16 teams, scoring one goal.
