Manchester United fans have questioned a strange decision that Ruben Amorim made during his time at the club.

On Saturday afternoon, Manchester United faced historic rivals Manchester City in their first Premier League match since sacking former manager Amorim.

Heading into what was Michael Carrick's first game as interim manager, expectations were not high for United, with many fans thinking that it could be a rough day at Old Trafford.

However, standout performances from a number of star players meant that United picked up a dominant 2-0 win over their local rivals, taking them to fourth in the Premier League table.

And in the wake of such a massive win, fans have reflected on one questionable decision made by Amorim during his tenure in the United dugout.

Amorim led United for 63 games, winning 24 matches, drawing 18 while losing on 21 occasions, meaning he left the club with the worst win ratio (31.9%) of any permanent manager.

Across his time in charge, there were several decisions made that angered fans, particularly when it came to managing the club's young talents.

But following his commanding performance against City, it is how Amorim used captain Bruno Fernandes that has left fans scratching their heads.

Posting on X after the win, one fan laughed: "Amorim used to play Bruno fernandes at CDM."

While another claimed: "One of Reuben Amorim's sins was playing Bruno Fernandes out of position. Bruno Fernandes should be closer to the goal where he can do lots of damage."

And one wrote: "As fully expected, the next Man Utd manager picks a team in a 4231 with Bruno Fernandes as the 10 & Kobbie Mainoo in midfield and you can see in an instant they are a normal football team again.

"That Amorim fella was a f****** clown."

Following the match, Fernandes is now the first player to create 6+ chances and provide an assist in a Premier League game against Pep Guardiola's Man City.

Not only that, but he's become just the second player to create 5+ chances from open-play against City after Bryan Mbeumo a year ago.
