Ruben Amorim Calls Up Man Utd Starlet as First-Team Star Not Spotted in Training

Ruben Amorim has called up a Manchester United youngster as a first-team star was not spotted in training ahead of their Premier League match against Brentford.

Man United secured their second league win of the season after their 2-1 victory over Chelsea last weekend.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro ensured the Red Devils returned to the win column following their bruising 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Man United, who currently occupy 11th place in the table, resume their league campaign on Saturday when they face Brentford.

And a Man United starlet could be involved in the matchday squad judging by Thursday's training session.

According to Samuel Luckhurst, Sam Mather was drafted into first-team training after Noussair Mazraoui was not 'visible'.

He expects Amorim to issue an update on the Moroccan wing-back in Friday's pre-match press conference.

On X, Luckhurst wrote: "Mazraoui not visible in #mufc training imagery/footage so Sam Mather was drafted into training. Mather is predominantly a winger, so a logical replacement for Mazraoui in 3-4-2-1 training games. Amorim likely to update on Mazraoui's fitness tomorrow."

Mather is a winger by trade but as Luckhurst points out, he is a logical replacement for Mazraoui in Amorim's system if the player is unavailable.

Mazraoui started his side's victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford before being replaced by Matheus Cunha in the 61st minute, having missed the opening two league games of the season.

He returned to action against Burnley before starting against Man City and Chelsea.

As for Mather, he is a product of the club's famed youth academy and signed his first professional contract with the club in September 2021.

The 21-year-old penned a new multi-year contract in the summer of 2024 and travelled with the first-team on their pre-season tour to the United States.

Mather enjoyed a loan spell at Rochdale in the 2023/24 campaign and spent time at Tranmere Rovers last season.

Mather, an England youth international, has yet to play a senior game for Man United but could be called upon, having trained with the first-team ahead of their game at Brentford.
