Roy Keane left the Sky Sports panel stunned with a scathing remark towards Trent Alexander-Arnold during Liverpool's Premier League clash with Manchester United.

The two sides were level at 0-0 at the half-time interval at Anfield.

The Reds had few chances to take the lead, with Ryan Gravenberch's long-range effort one of their best openings.

United, meanwhile, had opportunities of their own at the other end and Ruben Amorim will likely have been pleased with what he saw.

Keane, though, wasn't pleased with what he saw from one Liverpool player.

Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent days, but the Irishman wasn't having any of it after seeing highlights of his first half performance.

He remarked: "Those chances for United, they're so easy. Just a couple of balls over the top.

"We talk about how brilliant Trent is going forward. Trent's defending today, my goodness. It's schoolboy stuff.

"There's talk about him going to Real Madrid. The way he's defending, he's going to Tranmere Rovers after this! He's got to do better."

Keane added: "He doesn't have to move house then, would he? No, he's got to do better defensively. He has to do better."

The rest of panel were momentarily stunned by the remark, with presenter David Jones asking co-pundit Daniel Sturridge his verdict.

After Sturridge had lifted his head out of his hands, he laughed before stating: "I've got no words! No words."

And Jones added: "It's warmer in Madrid."

Shortly after Keane's comments, Lisandro Martinez gave United the lead on 52 minutes with a stunning left-footed finish off the crossbar.

The Argentinian was an unlikely attacker in the Liverpool penalty area, but Alexander-Arnold gave away possession cheaply in the build-up to the move.

The Reds would then equalise through Cody Gakpo, before Mohamed Salah converted a penalty to make it 2-1 to the Premier League leaders.
