Fans have ripped into Rasmus Hojlund for his 'embarrassing' comments after Manchester United's 4-3 defeat to FC Copenhagen.

The Red Devils returned to Champions League action on Wednesday night, but things did not go according to plan in the Danish capital as Erik ten Hag suffered his third European loss this season.

United got off to a dream start after summer signing Hojlund found the back of the net inside three minutes, before adding another around the half hour mark.

However, Marcus Rashford's controversial red card soon turned the tie on its head, with FC Copenhagen levelling the scores before half-time.

Bruno Fernandes then put the visitors back in front from the penalty spot, but the Danish side's one-man advantage prevailed, as they stole all three points thanks to late goals from Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghji.

On a frustrating night for United fans, Hojlund's post-match comments may have infuriated supporters even more after the 20-year-old claimed that they played "very well" for the first 20 minutes.

Speaking to TNT Sports, he said: "I think we started very well. To be honest, we controlled the game until the red card. That changed the game, of course.

"If you don't look at the result and only take the first 20 minutes into account we did quite well."

Supporters have subsequently ripped into the Denmark international for his "embarrassing" comments, joking that football only last for 20 minutes now.

Taking to social media, one user tweeted: "That’s got to be the funniest quote this season."

Another wrote: "Football matches are 20 minutes long now," while a third joked: "Congrats to 'The First 20mins Champions'."

A fourth chimed in: "This is the most embarrassing quote I've ever seen from a footballer in an interview."

The result leaves Manchester United rock bottom of their Champions League group on three points, as Ten Hag's hopes of sealing qualification to the knockout stages drift further away.
