Rasmus Hojlund broke Cristiano Ronaldo's Man Utd record during win vs Wolves

Rasmus Hojlund broke Cristiano Ronaldo's Man Utd record during win vs Wolves

Hojlund made history.

Rasmus Hojlund broke a long-standing record set by Cristiano Ronaldo during Manchester United's dramatic 4-3 win against Wolves on Thursday.

United and Wolves played out a Premier League thriller at Molineux, with Kobbie Mainoo's 97th minute winner cancelling out what looked to be a 95th minute equaliser for the hosts.

Erik ten Hag's side made a lightning start when Marcus Rashford put his off-field troubles behind him to fire United into an early lead.

17 minutes after setting up Rashford's opener, Rasmus Hojlund got his toe on the end of Luke Shaw's cross to score his third Premier League goal.

In doing so he not only doubled United's advantage, but he broke a record that Cristiano Ronaldo set way back in 2007.

The Danish striker scored and assisted for the second Premier League games in a row, having achieved the same feat in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last month.

At the age of 20 years and 362 days, Hojlund is the youngest United player to achieve the feat, breaking the record a 21-year-old Ronaldo set in 2007.

Hojlund has endured a mixed start to life at Old Trafford following his £72 million summer move from Atalanta.

While the young Dane scored five goals in six Champions League group stage outings for his new side, it took him 14 league matches to find the back of the net.

Hojlund appears to have moved on from his struggles though, as he has now scored in three consecutive league appearances. In 27 matches in all competitions this term he has scored nine goals and provided two assists.

The win pushed Ten Hag's side up to seventh place in the table, keeping alive their slim hopes of qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League.

Next up for United is a clash with West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday, before they enjoy a week off ahead of a potentially tricky trip to Aston Villa the following weekend.
