Wolves attacking midfielder Matheus Cunha is reportedly set to boost his wage by a staggering amount if he joins Manchester United.

Cunha, 26, is widely reported to be nearing a move to Man United, having impressed at Wolves this season.

The Brazil international, who has scored 33 goals for the Midlands club, was a shining light in Vitor Pereira’s side for much of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 26-year-old has a reported £62.5m release clause in his contract, which United are willing to meet but would prefer to stagger payments over five years, despite Wolves wanting over it two years, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Ornstein claims that “personal terms are already in place and there is an expectation on all sides that agreements will be finalised for the forward to join United”.

And upon the completion of the deal, Cunha is set to see his current wage rise by around 67%.

The Telegraph reports that his salary will rise from £120,000 per week to £200,000 per week, making him the fourth highest earner at the club based on Capology’s information.

Casemiro, who earns £350,000 per week, is the Red Devils’ top earner, while Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount make up the top three on £300,000 and £250,000 respectively.

Fans were quick to give their thoughts on social media.

One said: “Wage structure is important you know 200k p/w for Cunha. He's 26 and only has 72 career goals in all competitions."

Another added: "£100 -150m black hole this season. Massively in debt, wage bill through the roof, but somehow still able to splash on Cunha and Mbeumo when other clubs finishing in European places will have to sell to buy.”

A third questioned: "I do think with a lot of players it is a wage thing, because we’re stupid enough to pay it. Definitely seemed the case with Di Maria. Is Cunha joining because he’s been tempted by Amorim’s project and can actually see the light or is it the money projected?"

While a fourth exclaimed: "Thought Ratcliffe said they were close to bankruptcy recently? Seems a lot of money to spend on one player if you haven’t got any money and you’re making hundreds of staff redundant."
