Jamie Carragher rips into 'problem' Marcus Rashford and compares him to Man Utd flop who 'doesn't care'

Manchester United produced a dismal display against Newcastle United on Saturday night

Jamie Carragher has blasted Marcus Rashford after his performance during Manchester United’s dismal display against Newcastle United.

On Saturday night, an Anthony Gordon goal was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for Newcastle.

In truth, United were lucky to come away with just a one-goal defeat as they were outplayed from minute one.

Rashford, who signed a new deal with United in the summer was taken off after 61 minutes and clearly looked dejected when sitting on the bench.

After Sunday’s thrilling 3-3 draw between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, former Liverpool defender Carragher ripped into Rashford.

He said on Sky Sports: “It looks like big problems [at Man United]. I can't actually believe where Man Untied are in the table. Watching Marcus Rashford last night that was an unacceptable performance for a few reasons.

“That lad didn't play midweek in the Champions League, but I have been a local player and it's not easy especially when the team is not doing well.

“For Rashford and myself and Gerrard at Liverpool, it's your job to fix it and drag others up with you.”

Carragher continued: “Watching Rashford he reminds me of Martial and that is worst possible thing you can say about him. Foreign player comes in and doesn't really care. Rashford is now looking like Martial.

“As a local player, your job is to drag others up. You do not stop running for that badge and your supporters as you are supposedly one of them. There was a player today, Son did not stop running. He got his goal and was involved, but when we talk about great players in this league, Son today didn't stop running. He was a leader.

“What you're asking for from Rashford is leadership. Those players have to look up to him saying that is Manchester United.”
