Former Man United star rejects insane '£100,000-per-week offer' from West Ham as he knows his former side want to re-sign him this summer

Former Man United star rejects insane '£100,000-per-week offer' from West Ham as he knows his former side want to re-sign him this summer

The player left the 20-time Premier League champions in 2020 and has since represented his country at international level.

A former Manchester United player has reportedly ‘rejected’ a contract offer from West Ham United as he is ‘waiting’ to re-sign for the Red Devils after attracting interest from several top European clubs.

West Ham and Man Utd have endured relatively poor 2024/25 campaigns, with Graham Potter’s side currently sitting in 16th place in the Premier League while Ruben Amorim’s team are 13th.

Both clubs will likely look to recruit players to bolster their squads this summer with Man Utd having signed youngsters Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu in the winter transfer window.

Meanwhile, since Potter, 49, started in his role as Hammers head coach in January he has yet to welcome a permanent signing to the club with 20-year-old forward Evan Ferguson joining on loan from Brighton until the end of the season being the only addition to the squad.

However, the East London club have shown interest in Lille and England centre-midfielder Angel Gomes as reported by The Guardian earlier in March.

Gomes, 24, operates mainly as a holding midfielder and was a crucial part of the England Under-21s side that won the European Championship in 2023 - he has since earned four caps at senior level.

The report suggests that West Ham proposed a deal worth £100,000 per week but are likely to miss out on signing the player, who is out of contract this summer.

In February, the MEN reported that Gomes could be the subject of interest from Man United, despite him leaving the club in 2020 after struggling to break into the first team.

Barcelona are also said to be interested in the 24-year-old although he has previously admitted that it would be “difficult to say no” to a return to his boyhood club if the opportunity presented itself.

"There'll always be that sentimental soft spot, so of course it'd be difficult to say no," Gomes told The Times in October.

"As amazing as that would be, after finding happiness abroad I know [playing in the Premier League] is not the be-all and end-all.”

Due to Gomes' contract being set to expire in June, he will join his next club as a free transfer.
