Manchester United are taking on Leeds United in their opening pre-season friendly in Oslo, Norway.

United boss Erik ten Hag named an unfamiliar line-up for the match at the Ullevaal Stadion with some of the club's biggest stars yet to return from their summer break.

Nevertheless, there were some high-profile names included in Ten Hag's starting line-up including new signing Mason Mount, who was handed his debut for the club following his £55m move from Chelsea.

Lisandro Martinez also returned to the team after recovering from his fractured metatarsal that ruled him out of the final months of last season.

Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also started the match as Ten Hag opted for a mix of youth and experience, with academy players Kobbie Mainoo, Omari Forson and Hannibal also in the starting XI.

Here are the half-time player ratings for United in the opening pre-season friendly.

Advert

Tom Heaton - 6

Did well to deal with a dangerous moment early on after coming a long way out of his area. Made another smart save later in the half as Leeds grew into it.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5

Quiet first half, particularly going forward. Leeds were able to get in down his side on two separate occasions but no major errors.

Lisandro Martinez – 6

A welcome sight for United fans to see him back on the pitch. Solid defensively and tried his best to distribute the ball quickly up the pitch.

Raphael Varane – 5

Was caught out defensively for one Leeds opportunity but looked relatively solid throughout the half. Played a lovely ball over the top for Mount midway through the half.

Alvaro Fernandez - 5

Quiet first half from the youngster. Kept Leeds out down his flank but should have done better with a header from corner, which he put wide.

Mason Mount – 6

Solid debut for Mount but faded as the half wore on. Tried an audacious chip early on which landed on the roof of the net. Skied a shot later in the half. Tried his best to link up play. Positive signs.

Advert

Hannibal – 8

United's best player in the half. Fired a shot straight at the Leeds goalkeeper when he scored have scored but made up for that miss with a fantastic goal-saving challenge after running the length of the pitch. Set up Sancho for wasted opportunity later on. Will have impressed Erik ten Hag.

Kobbie Mainoo – 7

Impressed throughout the half, both defensively and going forward. Made one mistake to allow Leeds to break but was otherwise solid in midfield. One to watch.

Jadon Sancho – 4

Started the match in the false nine position but failed to make the most of the opportunity. Was outshone by his younger teammates and wasted a big chance to score after a terrible first touch. Not what United fans will have wanted to see.

Omari Forson - 5

A few promising signs from the youngster but failed to make the same impact as Diallo.

Amad Diallo - 7

Energetic performance in attack and looked dangerous throughout the half. Set up Hannibal for a big chance early on but lacked composure when given the opportunity to score himself later in the half, firing over the top.
