Agent issues statement blasting 'false claim' about Anthony Martial after his Man Utd exit

Agent issues statement blasting 'false claim' about Anthony Martial after his Man Utd exit

Anthony Martial's agent has set the record straight.

The agent of Anthony Martial has issued a statement blasting a 'false claim' made about his exit from Manchester United.

After nine seasons at the club, the Frenchman's time at Old Trafford is about to come to an end when his contract expires at the end of June.

He arrived in England from Monaco as the world's most expensive teenager back in 2015 and was seen as a future star with a Ballon d'Or clause even famously included in his contract.

But, United's problems off this pitch coupled with the player's injury struggles meant he failed to live up to expectations.

The 28-year-old has rarely featured in the past few years and has only remained at the club due to his lengthy contract and high wages.

However, following the announcement of his departure his agent Philippe Lamboley was quick to defend Martial, saying that his priority was a good sporting project and not money.

Speaking to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, he said: "We are studying the different projects and we will take time. Anthony has made sure to be fit and ready for his new club.

"I hear reports that he would be too financially greedy with the clubs. This is not true. Anthony wants an ambitious project to achieve high club goals and get back into the France team.

"He will choose his club according to the sporting and family project. The finances are important for any professional player but they are not his priority.”

The last time Martial played over 30 games as a senior professional player was in the 2019/20 pandemic hit season.

He's failed to perform well since that season in which he scored 17 Premier League goals.

There could be a number of reasons for this, but it's clear that his career was only going in one direction at United.

His departure is best for all parties and now gives him a chance to kick on and potentially get back to his best.
