Manchester United fans have completed a u-turn on a player who faced huge criticism after a chaotic 3-2 win over Ipswich Town on Wednesday night.

United found themselves 1-0 down early on after a horrific mix-up involving Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana allowed Jaden Philogene to score an easy goal.

The Red Devils turned it around and were 2-1 up thanks to an own goal from Sam Morsy and a tap-in from Matthijs de Ligt.

But then Dorgu's night went from bad to worse when he was sent off for a horror challenge on Omari Hutchinson, before Onana produced another mistake as Philogene netted his second.

Harry Maguire netted the winner for 10-man United early in the second half to claim a win which moved them up to 14th in the Premier League table.

And though it wasn't convincing form Ruben Amorim's men, United fans have now changed their tune on Joshua Zirkzee.

Though he scored the winning goal on his debut against Fulham, Zirkzee struggled to get going at Old Trafford and was brutally taken off after just 32 minutes against Newcastle back in December. He was heavily linked with an early exit from United, with a return to Italy mooted at one stage.

But he had a redemption of sorts when he scored the winning penalty in the FA Cup win against Arsenal at the Emirates and though improvement is still needed, supporters have been impressed with how he has applied himself in recent weeks.

One fan on X said: "Zirkzee has come along way in such a short amount of time. He still needs to work on his finishing but his all round play is fantastic. He’s changing my mind."

A second wrote: "Zirkzee you’re coming good brother."

Another praised the Dutchman, adding: "Since being boo’d off at halftime Joshua Zirkzee has shown more character and determination than 99% of the squad have in their careers. He’s done fantastically well since that incident and his quickly becoming one of my favourite players to watch in this s**t show."

A fourth commented: "Zirkzee won’t give you 20 goals a season, but the guy works his socks off whenever he’s given a chance."

A final user stated: "Joshua Zirkzee is improving game by game. He wants to learn, he wants to get better. Has the fundamentals of a great footballer."

Zirkzee signed for United from Bologna for a fee of £36.5 million, with the 23-year-old penning a five-year contract. He has made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.

United are back in action on Sunday when they host Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Cup, before they take on Real Sociedad in a Europa League round of 16 first leg fixture on Thursday.
