Man Utd target Todibo set unwanted Ligue 1 record last season that could worry fans

Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo but fans may be less sure of a deal after he broke an unwanted record earlier this season.

United have been busy in the summer transfer window, having already signed Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund.

But Erik ten Hag isn't finished there and has identified Nice defender Todibo as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire, with the 30-year-old heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit.

Speaking on Monday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on his YouTube channel, explaining: "Manchester United sent their scouts multiple times to follow Todibo.

"Manchester United are keeping an eye on the situation of Todibo, and they have contacts. They think that Todibo could be one of the priority options in case Maguire if he leaves the club.

"At the moment, the situation for Maguire remains quiet. In case the Maguire situation changes, Todibo is one of the options they are looking at."

And it seems United are ramping up their efforts to sign the 23-year-old, having reportedly opened talks with Todimo. According to RMC Sport, United have enquired to Nice about the Barcelona academy graduate's availability.

However, Red Devils supporters may be hesitant about signing the defender after he was sensationally sent off just nine seconds into Nice's Ligue 1 clash with Angers last season.

Just moments after kick-off, Todibo took down Angers forward Abdallah Sima with a cynical challenge before being given his marching orders by the referee.

In doing so, Todibo picked up the unwanted record for the fastest red card in Ligue 1 history.

Otherwise, however, he performed at a consistent level for Nice, and was called up to France's senior squad for their European qualifiers in March after missing out on their World Cup squad.
