Manchester United have agreed a deadline day deal after Lisandro Martinez's injury setback - but it is not what fans will have been waiting for.

It was reported on Monday afternoon that Martinez suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Argentinian was stretchered off in tears and could now miss the remainder of 2025.

It is another injury blow for the former Ajax defender, who fractured his foot in the final month of his debut at United in April 2023.

United have not yet confirmed the full extent of the injury but were already said to be fearful that the 26-year-old would miss the rest of the season after the defeat to Palace.

The news may have prompted activity from United in terms of bringing in a new centre-back.

But that doesn't appear to have happened - with the club instead sanctioning the departure of another defender.

According to Voetbal International's Joost Blaauwhof, Tyrell Malacia has agreed to join Eredivisie giants PSV on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The Dutchman is said to be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford following the signing of left wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are the other fully fit options available to play in the position.

It is claimed that Malacia will undergo a medical before completing a move to the Eredivisie leaders. The Dutch window closes on Tuesday so PSV do not need to finalise the deal today.

The chances of further incomings, after the deals for Dorgu and Arsenal youngster Ayden Heaven, appear to be slim.

The Athletic claimed that Ruben Amorim's side were keen on a loan move for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel but he has now agreed to sign for Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season.
