Former Manchester United defender Teden Mengi briefly forgot which club he played for during Saturday's visit to Old Trafford with current side Luton.

Mengi ended a 14-year association with United when he signed for Rob Edwards' newly-promoted side in the summer.

The 21-year-old was reportedly 'removed' from Erik ten Hag's first team squad at Carrington last season, alongside several other players, in order to make room for the club's new signings.

While the majority of the other players secured loan moves away from Old Trafford in January, that wasn't the case for Mengi.

He played in both of United's mid-World Cup friendly matches, but suffered a hamstring injury in the latter game against Real Betis and missed over four months of action.

His Luton side travelled to Old Trafford to face his former club on Saturday - and given his long stint at his boyhood club, Mengi made a perhaps understandable yet hilarious error.

Upon entering the dressing room section of the ground, BBC Match of the Day 2 cameras caught Mengi greeting a club official - before walking into the home dressing room by mistake.

The defender quickly realised his error, though, and shared a laugh about it as he walked back towards the away dressing room.

Since making his Luton debut in an EFL Cup tie against Exeter in September, Mengi has played in all seven of his team's games.

And speaking ahead of the United clash, he told Sky Sports of his main motivations for departing Old Trafford in the summer: "I've moved on to take a different route in my career, try to get to where I want to get in my career, and that was the decision to come to Luton.

"Just a different challenge that I didn't think I was getting at United. A chance to play in the first team, to showcase what I know I'm capable of doing.

"No disrespect to Manchester United, but that's just how it works sometimes. There's people in your position. But after conversations with the manager [Rob Edwards], we both felt it was the right decision for me to come here."
