A noticeable amount of Manchester United fans have made a very specific request to the club after Amad scored a hat-trick in their Premier League clash against Southampton.

Ruben Amorim's side scraped past bottom-of-the-league Southampton on Thursday night thanks to the in-form Amad, who was the real difference-maker in an otherwise poor team performance.

In fact, for around 80 minutes, it looked like the visitors would secure just their second victory of the season after scoring from a corner-kick for the first time in 2024/25.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have conceded the most goals from corner-kicks this season in the Premier League (10) and it was once again their downfall on a bewildering night at Old Trafford.

But then – in a performance that sums up his last few months – Amad saved his team's blushes with a magnificent 12-minute hat-trick to hand United a much-needed three points and Amorim's first league since December 15.

Both during and after the game against Southampton on Thursday night, many fans suggested that United should give Amad the iconic number 7 shirt, which is currently worn by Mason Mount.

Here's what fans have been saying on social media regarding Amad's shirt number.

One said: "Amad carrying Manchester United, Old Trafford & the whole of Manchester on his back single handedly right now. Give him the No. 7," and another wrote: "First hat-trick since Ronaldo, hat-trick before Rashford. Give Amad the number 7 shirt."

A third commented: "Give Amad number 7 at the end of the season. And then ANOTHER contact extension. 7 years on top of the current. Wrap him in bubble wrap and non purchasable."

A fourth said: "Give Amad the number 7 and watch him be a Man United legend over the next 4/5 years," and a fifth added: "Rip that #7 shirt off Mounts back rn, we're witnessing greatness."

Speaking after the final whistle on Thursday, Amad described the past week as one of the best of his life.

"In football, you have to believe it and we believed until the end," he told TNT Sports. "We are very happy to win this game because we draw against Liverpool and Arsenal, so the confidence was there.

"We have quality players in this team. We need sometimes to be more hungry in the final third, and today we showed at the end we were the best team on the pitch. I’m so happy for the win today because this team deserved it."

Asked if it was among the best moments he has experienced, Amad replied: "Maybe one of the best weeks of my life but like I said, I’m very happy for this win because this team deserved to win this game so I’m very happy."

The 22-year-old recently penned a new five-and-a-half-year contract at Old Trafford, which will keep him at United until 2030. Does he deserve the number 7 shirt?
