A Manchester United player Ralf Rangnick once described as a 'mood killer' has become a cult hero with his new club after leaving Old Trafford.

Rangnick was appointed interim manager for the second half of the 2021/22 season following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Results under the German were initially good until he oversaw Man United's crushing 4-0 defeat to rivals Liverpool.

He claimed Liverpool were 'six years ahead' of the Red Devils.

In the wake of the heavy defeat, he suggested that Man United required 'open heart surgery' as they attempted to rebuild.

The veteran coach put together a list of transfer recommendations, including Erling Haaland and Christopher Nkunku.

Rangnick also urged the club to part ways with a host of players to start the rebuild, per a report from Bild, who claimed he called out three Man United stars for being 'mood killers' during his time in charge.

One of them being Anthony Martial, who ended his association with Man United last summer.

The Frenchman showed early promise at Man United following his £36 million move from AS Monaco in the summer of 2015.

Martial scored against Liverpool on his debut as he went onto net 17 goals in all competitions in his first season at the club.

In the 2019/20 campaign, he bagged 17 Premier League goals.

But Martial failed to achieve similar goal-scoring feats as he endured a steady decline at Man United before leaving the club.

Martial subsequently signed for Greek side AEK Athens, where he has enjoyed a stunning start, scoring five goals in 10 games across all competitions.

The 29-year-old, who penned a three-year contract, has weighed in with three league goals and two goals in the cup.

He has returned to form in front of goal since leaving Man United and is loving life in Greece.
