Manchester United fans think Jose Mourinho’s prediction from six years ago has come true.

On Sunday Amad Diallo scored in stoppage time of extra time as United claimed a dramatic 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final.

On two occasions Jurgen Klopp’s men were minutes away from progressing to the semi-final, having led going into the 87th minute of normal time and again in the 112th minute of extra-time.

In both instances, however, Erik ten Hag's team managed to conjure up a pair of equalisers before Amad’s astonishing winner.

Beyond Amad’s heroics, several United players impressed during the game, with Kobbie Mainoo playing a starring role for the Old Trafford club in normal time, and Diogo Dalot proving a reliable presence at right-back.

And after the encounter fans noted that former United boss Mourinho had long claimed Dalot would be a success at the club.

In 2018, Mourinho was sure United had found a gem when they signed the full-back.

After just one game, Mourinho said United had found a right-back for "the next 10 years", adding: "He has all the attributes that a full-back needs; physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality combined with a Porto academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level."

Fans are X, formally Twitter, are now claiming that Mourinho was spot on with his assessment of Dalot.

In response to a tweet carrying Mourinho’s quotes from six years ago, one person said: “[Mourinho is] always ahead of the curve when it comes to fullbacks.”

Another added: “Jose Mourinho. Forever a red. You saw the vision.”

A third simply added: “W GOAT.”

Elsewhere, United’s current boss Ten Hag claimed that United were playing the best they had all season in the first half against Liverpool.

"The first 35 minutes I think was the best minutes from our season," Ten Hag told ITV. "We were really there, acting as a team. But then gaps in between the lines and you can't allow this against Liverpool. Then they outplay you.

"And also after half-time, it continues. We had to change. We went into the risk, we went into one against one, and the players were wonderful - the mentality, the attitude was so great.

"They had strong belief to win this game. We went for it and we got it."
