Manchester United fans want another club icon to re-sign after Jonny Evans’ stellar performance against Burnley.

United ended their three-game losing streak by edging past Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.

Evans, who was making his first start for United in more than eight years, played an inch perfect pass to pick out club-captain Bruno Fernandes, who lashed a stunning volley into the net.

Moment earlier, Evans thought he has scored his first United goal in the Premier League since 2012, when he nodded home Sergio Reguilon's corner after 25 minutes. However VAR ruled it out with Rasmus Hojlund deemed to have impeded Burnley’s James Trafford from an offside position.

Questions had been raised when Evans inclusion was announced, but the 35-year-old put in an assured performance at the back, that has helped United move up to eighth in the Premier League.

Amid Evans’ success, United fans are jokingly calling for the return of another cult hero - Nani - amid the absences of Jadon Sancho and Antony.

One person said: “Jonny Evans got me thinking a move for Nani may sort out our RW problem.”

Another wrote: “Seeing how well Jonny Evans played we may need to sign Nani again and bring scholes outta retirement one last time tbh.”

A third said, rather loudly: “WHO KNEW ALL UTD NEEDED WAS JONNY EVANS IN XI. NOW DO WES BROWN AND NANI.”

Nani, 36, is currently operating on the flank for Turkish Süper Lig side Adana Demirspor. The Portugal star played 230 times across an eight-year spell at United, netting 41 goals and claiming a further 71 assists.
