Manchester United’s youngster Dan Gore could be in the squad against Wolves for the club’s Premier League opener.

United will fancy getting the new campaign off to a flyer at Old Trafford on Monday when they take on Wolves, a team that have endured a tumultuous pre-season and already seen manager Julen Lopetegui leave.

The Old Trafford club, who finished third last year, have spent some £180million on recruits, with Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana having all arrived over the summer.

While Erik ten Hag’s side looks stronger on paper, their pre-season results have been mixed.

United secured victories over Leeds, Lyon, Arsenal and Lens, but also suffered three straight defeats to Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, conceding over two goals in each loss.

And with injuries to contend with, United go into the Wolves encounter light in midfield. Indeed, according to the Manchester Evening News, there is an outside chance Gore could be on the bench for the Wolves encounter.

Dan Gore’s Martial spat

While Gore featured during United’s pre-season and this early phase of his career the youngster is best known for a reported training-ground spat with Anthony Martial.

Last November, the Guardian claimed that Martial was on the receiving end of a strong challenge from the 18-year-old during a training session at Carrington.

The Frenchman retaliated but Gore, who joined United from Burnley last summer, reportedly refused to back down.

The pair allegedly had to be pulled apart, with Martial apologising to Gore following the incident.

Moreover, the Mail Online claim Erik ten Hag told Gore that first-team players should not be challenged in training because it causes a risk of injury.

Gore appears to be in the first-team picture while United pursue Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.

Moreover, the Independent claim United are also interested in Romeo Lavia, with a deal likely Belgian having also been subject to bids from Chelsea and Liverpool. Southampton are holding out for £50million.
