Man Utd 'set deadline' to complete Bryan Mbeumo transfer as unexpected problem emerges

Manchester United have reportedly set a deadline to try and get a deal for Bryan Mbeumo completed after growing frustrated with a lack of movement.

The Red Devils, who finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Spurs, have made just one signing so far this summer - bringing in Matheus Cunha from Wolves after paying his £62.5 million release clause.

United have identified Brentford star Mbeumo as a priority signing but there has been a lack of movement in regards to the transfer, with the 13-time Premier League winners having a £60 million bid rejected.

According to a new report from The Guardian, United are only willing to pay as high as £65 million for the Cameroonian - £5 million less than Brentford's valuation.

The deal has therefore stalled despite Mbeumo reportedly telling United he wishes to join them this summer.

Man United make Bryan Mbeumo decision

As per Simon Stone from the BBC, United are still working to make the move happen and have decided that they want it done before they depart for their pre-season tour of the United States next Tuesday.

United kick off their pre-season schedule with a clash against rivals Leeds United in Sweden in Saturday before they jet out across the pond to compete in the 'Premier League Summer Series', where they face West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton.

United's pursuit of Mbeumo could be severely impacted by news that Newcastle are keen on the 25-year-old's strike partner Yoane Wissa.

The Magpies are on the hunt for a new face in attack but have pulled the plug on a move for Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike after seeing a £69.3 million bid knocked back.

Liverpool appear to have a free run for the former Paris Saint-Germain man, with Newcastle firmly focusing their efforts on Wissa and set to make official contact.

It has been reported that Wissa would prefer a move to Spurs and reunite with Thomas Frank, who left the Bees in the summer after seven years.

Mbeumo and Wissa scored a combined total of 39 goals in the Premier League last season but the consensus is that Brentford, now managed by Keith Andrews, will not allow both to leave.

The west London outfit have already sold captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal in a surprise deal but moved to replace him with former Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson.
