Two Premier League clubs join Man Utd in race to sign Bryan Mbeumo as Ruben Amorim makes demand

The race to sign Bryan Mbuemo from Brentford has taken another twist after two Premier League clubs expressed their interest in one of Europe's most sought-after forwards, including Aston Villa.

Earlier this month, it was widely reported that the France-born Cameroon international had expressed his preference to join Manchester United over other interested clubs, with the Reds opening talks with Brentford as they pursued an agreement.

A first bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons was rejected by Brentford, but after parties remained in talks, United have now offered a deal worth in excess of £60 million, according to journalist Duncan Castles.

United were always expected to go back in with another offer after their initial bid was turned down, but Thomas Frank's appointment at Spurs has seemingly put a spanner in the works, while other clubs remain keen.

After notching 20 goals and seven assists in 38 league games for the Bees last season, Mbuemo has attracted interest from several top-flight clubs, including Arsenal.

And now, it appears United will face competition from fellow Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Aston Villa, although Brentford are intent on seeing their £70 million asking price met this summer.

Ruben Amorim, meanwhile, is said to be 'frustrated' at United's lack of recruitment since the end of the season, according to The Star.

In fact, the report claims Amorim identified a number of potential targets months ago, but 'little has happened' apart from the arrival of Mathues Cunha from Wolves.

Which positions do United want to strengthen this summer?

The Manchester Evening News claim United want to sign two more forwards, a midfielder and a goalkeeper this summer.

As well as Mbeumo, United want to land a prolific centre-forward. Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen continue to be linked alongside Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

A new midfielder could arrive ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, with Christian Eriksen leaving Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the month.

As mentioned above, United are also keen on signing a goalkeeper to challenge Andre Onana, with Altay Bayindir being linked with a move to Turkish side Besiktas.
