Bruno Fernandes has opened up on what worries him most after a lacklustre Manchester United suffered their sixth home Premier League defeat of the season.

United fans endured another miserable afternoon on Sunday as goals from Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter handed Brighton a much-deserved three points at Old Trafford.

In fact, after falling to the 3-1 defeat, a no-nonsense Ruben Amorim came out and suggested his side were maybe "the worst" in Manchester United's entire history.

"I know you [media] want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that," the Portuguese head coach added. "Here you go: your headlines."

Amorim wasn't the only one to gave his brutally honest take on the current situation at United.

Speaking in his post-match interview with MUTV, club captain Bruno Fernandes gave a frank assessment of their performance against Brighton as he opened up on what worries him most amid their struggles.

"I think in the second half we showed the opposite," he said. "We could have stayed in the game, even when we conceded to go to 2-1, but then I think it was a little bit of a lack of belief in that moment that we could change the game and get back into the game.

"Then you concede to go to 3-1 and everything from then on was much more difficult, but we still had time to come back into the game and do something different."

Fernandes added: "For me, what worries me the most is the lack of confidence that we have at the moment to do the things that we are able to do. I don't mind anyone losing the ball for trying something to help the team.

"We need to get the best out of the players and we need the players to trust themselves that they are able to turn things around for ourselves."

After pointing out their lack of confidence in decisive moments, Fernandes explained what the team needs to improve on going forward.

"I think in the first half we were the better team but lacked a little bit of decision making in the last third and at the same time we lacked a little bit of consistency to play in the last third, to stay more on the ball and be brave to pin them back and play from there," he said.

"That is something that we have to improve."

Thoughts on Fernandes' comments? Do you think Amorim's team lack confidence right now, even after positive results over Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool in recent weeks? Let us know in the comments.
