Man Utd’s ‘shining light’ might not even be at the club next month

Manchester United could be in for a busy January transfer window

Manchester United’s ‘one shining light’ could be out of the club by the end of next month.

As the January transfer window approaches, United could be busy as they look to add some much-needed quality to their squad after a below-par start to the 23/24 season.

Erik ten Hag’s men currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and their Champions League campaign is hanging by a thread.

Ahead of the transfer window, United could be hit with another problem as the future of Sergio Reguilon is currently up in the air.

Reguilon impressed fans during United’s 4-3 defeat against Bayern Munich back in September, with fans branding the Spaniard as the only shining light after the match.

Reguilon was signed on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur but has only managed to make 10 appearances for the Old Trafford club.

Speaking recently about Reguilon’s future, Ten Hag admitted that the full-back could be back at Spurs in January due to a ‘break clause’ within his contract.

The Dutchman said: “We have to make a final decision on Reguilon. But also there is Spurs who are involved in that conversation as well.”

Reguilon was signed for Spurs by Jose Mourinho after struggling to nail down a regular spot at Real Madrid.

Last season, he was sent out on loan back to Spain as he played for Atletico Madrid. Upon his return, the 26-year-old failed to impress Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou and therefore was sent out on loan again.

When he first joined United, Reguilon said: “In life you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down.

“Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success.”

He added: “I know that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am ready to fight for this group and show everyone my qualities.”
