Manchester United fans have hit out at one player after their defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League.

On Sunday afternoon, City welcomed bitter rivals United to the Etihad Stadium as Pep Guardiola’s men looked to close the gap to league leaders Liverpool.

Despite being the overwhelming favourites to win the match, the hosts were stunned after just eight minutes after Marcus Rashford’s stunning long-range goal made it 1-0.

In the second half, City moved up the gears as a brace from Phil Foden plus a goal from Erling Haaland sealed a 3-1 victory for the reigning champions.

For the third goal, Rodri did brilliantly to rob the ball off United man Sofyan Amrabat before playing in Haaland to score.

Reacting to Amrabat’s mistake on social media, one fan said: “Amrabat what was that?! Send him back!”

Another tweeted: “What the hell was that from Amrabat??”

A third fan added: “That World Cup sold everyone dreams, Amrabat is not good.”

Someone else wrote: “As a fanbase, we (including me) can all agree we were sooooo wrong about Amrabat. I’ve had enough of him, I don't wanna see him put on the MUFC shirt for any reason anymore.”

A fifth commented: “Amrabat enjoyed the World Cup tax & my club was blind enough to pay for it.”

Speaking after the match, United boss Erik ten Hag said: “The players gave everything. We had two players on the pitch that were not 100 per cent - Jonny Evans and Marcus Rashford. As a team they gave everything. The performance is very good. Of course we are disappointed with the score.

“They fought in togetherness, but also the performance is good. On another day we could have won this game. Small margins. It is true. Rashford is through and we can go for a second goal, Garnacho is through and we can go for a second goal but in both moments we got beaten.”

He added: “Really small margins. We could have scored a second goal. It is not that big, especially when we have everyone on board, we can be competitive. City is, don't forget this, in this moment, the best team in the world.”
