Liverpool enter the race 'in the last few hours' to sign one of the most in-demand players in world football

Liverpool enter the race 'in the last few hours' to sign one of the most in-demand players in world football

Liverpool have joined a three-pronged race to sign one of Europe's most sought-after players.

Liverpool have entered the race to sign one of the most in-demand players in world football, according to a new report.

The Reds will enter a new era next season under the management of Arne Slot, who is replacing Jurgen Klopp after the German's near nine-year spell at Anfield.

Slot will look to make a big impact during his first season as Liverpool look to improve on their third-placed Premier League finish in 2023/24 - and will hope for some key signings.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Dutchman is keen on making Lille centre-back Leny Yoro his first major signing as Reds boss.

The 18-year-old centre-back, who stands at 6ft 2in tall, has made 32 Ligue 1 appearances for the French side this season, scoring two goals.

Di Marzio claims that Liverpool have 'forcefully' entered the race for the young defender, who has represented France's U23 side and could appear at this summer's Olympics tournament in Paris.

He is described as one of the 'most sought-after players' in world football - and for good reason.

PSG, Real Madrid and Manchester United have all been linked with making a move for the defender, who will enter the final year of his contract this summer.

There is a stumbling block for Liverpool, however, with French outlet L'Equipe reporting that Real Madrid are currently leading the race to sign Yoro.

It is claimed that Real have been preparing for Yoro's transfer for two years - a strategy similar to the one they pursued in signing the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Jude Bellingham in recent years.

But if Liverpool can jump ahead in the race and secure the signing of the French youngster, he could eventually become Virgil van Dijk's successor - or line up alongside the Reds captain in Slot's new system next season.
