The Manchester United star who touched Liverpool's 'This Is Anfield' had a bizarre explanation for his action.
Back in March 2023, Liverpool welcomed fierce rivals United to Anfield in the Premier League.
It ended up being a horrible day for the Red Devils as goals from Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Roberto Firmino sealed a massive 7-0 win for Jurgen Klopp's men.
Prior to kick-off, as both teams were walking out of the tunnel at Anfield, United striker Wout Weghorst was seen touching the famous ‘This Is Anfield’ sign.

Touching the sign on the way out is often a tradition for Liverpool players, but it was strange to see a rival player put their hand on the sign before facing the Reds.
After being hit with criticism for touching the 'This Is Anfield' sign, Weghorst explained his actions.
He wrote on social media: "Normally I never react on media topics, but for this one it's worth it because you amazing United fans are important to me. So I just want to clarify the video that is doing the rounds.
"From the National team I know that Virgil always touches that sign and I went to stop him touching it to try and wind him up before the game."

Weghorst added: As a child I always supported FC Twente, and as a proud player for Manchester United, my dedication to this incredible club can never be questioned.
"Sunday was a terrible day for all of us, we are putting everything into making it right in the next weeks. We will bounce back together and achieve our aims this season."
Speaking about the iconic sign during his time in charge, Klopp said: "Before the game when we went down the stairs, my Dortmund friends asked me ‘do they all touch the This Is Anfield sign?’, I said no.

"I don’t really know exactly how it works but I think you need to win something before, I’m not sure."
He added: "I’ve told my players not to touch the ‘This Is Anfield’ sign until they win something!
"It's a sign of respect. I touched it when I was manager of Borussia Dortmund, but we lost 4-0."
