Manchester United are set to sanction a big departure just days after their dismal defeat by Liverpool.

On Sunday afternoon, Erik ten Hag’s men were second best from minute one as they fell to a 3-0 defeat against rivals Liverpool.

A brace from Luis Diaz and a goal by Mohamed Salah ensured Arne Slot’s first visit to Old Trafford as Liverpool boss was a winning one.

After the match, the future of United boss Ten Hag was the talk of the town but the club have since come out and backed their manager publicly.

Club CEO Omar Berrada said: "Erik has our full backing and we have worked very closely together in this transfer window. We're going to continue working very closely with him to help him get the best results out of the team.

"In terms of the contract, that was a decision that was taken prior to both of our arrivals. But we're very happy with that decision."

Just two days after the dismal defeat, it has been claimed that United are set to sanction a huge departure in their footballing structure.

As reported by The Athletic, United’s deputy football director Andy O’Boyle is set to depart after two years in the role.

The report stated: “Manchester United are set for more changes to their senior football leadership structure, with deputy football director Andy O’Boyle set to leave Old Trafford after two years in the post.

“O’Boyle joined United from his role as head of elite performance at the Premier League in May 2022, recruited to support then football director John Murtough in an effort to improve the men’s, women’s and academy operations.”

It added that O’Boyle played a big role in the summer transfer window as United brought in the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte.

Speaking in the first interview, former Paris Saint Germain midfielder Ugarte said: “First and foremost, its history, because we all know what a massive club United is - one of the best teams in the world.

“I also spoke a lot with Facu Pellistri and he told me all about everything: the atmosphere that's generated, the matchday atmosphere that builds up at Old Trafford is incredible.”

He added: “So yes, I'm really excited. I'd love to experience United's legendary stadium as a player and feel the presence of the supporters.”
