Manchester United’s players are reportedly divided over Lisandro Martinez’s rant about Jason Wilcox following the side’s 2-0 defeat away at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Following United’s Champions League league-phase clash at the Metropolitano on October 13, Martinez certainly did not hold back in his post-match interview, using it to call out director of football Wilcox and urge more investment in the first-team squad, despite the club signing Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba and Karl Darlow for a combined £155million.

What did Lisandro Martinez say about Jason Wilcox?
“I have to control myself a lot, but sometimes it’s a reflection of how our club is at the moment,” Martinez told Amazon Prime.
“We had a fantastic season last season, and now we expect more from the top, from upstairs, to bring in more players to compete because many teams have brought in many players as well.”

When pressed on whether more money needed to be invested to recruit better players, he replied: “Yes, 100 per cent.
“I expect more from our technical director. I have to be honest. And also, as a player, we have to do more.
“It’s also important to build a strong squad to be ready for this kind of night.”
The Argentinian could be subject to a fine or suspension for his outburst, despite the defender maintaining that head coach Michael Carrick “does his best” before urging United to stop just blaming the manager.
“But every season is different," Martinez added. "You can’t stay with what you did last season.
“The teams know how you play; they know every detail. If you don’t change, next season is a big problem.
“You start changing, changing, changing managers. But what about other areas?”
Carrick claimed he hadn’t seen the interview after the match, so couldn’t comment on it.

What do the Man Utd dressing room think about Lisandro Martinez’s rant?
Now, the United dressing room’s feelings on the saga have emerged, with The Sun reporting that the squad is split. Some players appreciate Martinez’s honesty, while a senior player felt it exacerbated the coverage of the loss. The players generally felt they had performed to a decent level in Madrid.
Roy Keane has also given his take on The Overlap, with the former United captain frowning upon Martinez’s mentality.
As Gary Neville read out Martinez’s statement, Keane interrupted, saying: “Let me stop you there… we had a fantastic season last year. There you go, that’s where he’s coming from. He actually thinks he had a fantastic season. Wow, he should be fined two weeks’ wages for saying that.”
United have yet to comment publicly on the situation.
Carrick’s side return to action away at Leeds United on October 18.
