Kobbie Mainoo couldn’t wait to end myth which has surrounded his entire footballing career

Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo gave an instant answer when asked to give one fact that fans should know about him in a new interview.

Mainoo has been one of United's key players in what has been a largely disappointing season under Erik ten Hag.

He has also been one of the few players to remain injury-free, and has therefore been able to establish himself as a crucial part of the midfield.

Earlier this week, Mainoo was nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, making him the only United player to be nominated for either of the two main end-of-season prizes.

The 18-year-old is the youngest nominee for the award, but will have to fend off some fierce competition in order to win.

Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Manchester City duo Phil Foden and Erling Haaland, Arsenal pair William Saliba and Bukayo Saka, Newcastle's Alexander Isak and Tottenham's Destiny Udogie are the other nominees.

United team-mate Alejandro Garnacho has also had an impressive season overall, with his stunning bicycle kick goal at Everton in December one of his seven league goals for the campaign.

This week, the pair took part in an interview with Chinese outlet iQiyi Sports - where they were challenged to give one fact that fans don't know about themselves that they would like them to know.

Upon hearing the question, Mainoo smiled before exclaiming: "Ah... yes," before scribbling down the fact that he is not 5ft 9in tall on his notepad.

The 18-year-old explained: "Everyone thinks I'm five foot nine - I'm six foot four. Everyone needs to stop thinking I'm five foot nine.

"I'm even [five foot nine] on FIFA as well..."

A quick check of the current EA FC 24 game shows that Mainoo is indeed listed as 5ft 9in on the newest game of the franchise - but EA will surely be giving him a height 'upgrade' on the back of his latest comments.
