Mainoo has seriously impressed for United during pre-season.

Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo was spotted on crutches after their 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in a blow to Erik ten Hag.

Mainoo was handed a start alongside Casemiro and Mason Mount against Los Blancos but was forced off just six minutes into the action after an unfortunate collision with Madrid winger Rodrygo.

The Brazilian winger was sent flying to the deck after a challenge from Casemiro and landed on Mainoo, who was unable to get out of the way in time.

The 18-year-old was replaced by Christian Eriksen and was later pictured leaving the stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot on his left foot.

Ten Hag provides Mainoo injury update

When quizzed on Mainoo's condition after United's 2-0 defeat in Houston, Ten Hag was unable to providetoo much information, but remained hopeful of a speedy recovery.

"I understand the question but you can never tell straight after a game," the Dutchman told reporters. "We have to wait for what it is. Hopefully he is not too bad and chances will come."

Replying to a video on Twitter of Mainoo walking on crutches, United super fan and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge tweeted: "Oh No!!!!!!"

Mainoo has seriously impressed during pre-season, with a compilation of the midfielder's performance against Arsenal during the Red Devils' 2-0 win going viral on social media.

Meanwhile, United's staff are thought to be excited by the player's development, with the Telegraph claiming that Mainoo is precisely the sort of talent the club may have lost to rivals Manchester City in years gone by.

In addition, new captain Bruno Fernandes has predicted a bright future for the Englishman.

“He’s a great player," Fernandes said after the Arsenal win o Saturday. "He’s good on the ball, strong, he can defend and attack."

“He’s still pretty young but we see a bright future for him.”
