Gary Neville apologises and admits he's 'shocked' and 'totally embarrassed' about Harry Styles incident at Luton game

Gary Neville bumped into former One Direction singer Harry Styles at Kenilworth Road.

Gary Neville has apologised to Harry Styles for a "totally embarrassing" incident ahead of Manchester United's 2-1 win over Luton Town.

The former United defender, who on commentary duty at Kenilworth Road as a brace from Rasmus Hojlund sealed all three points for the visitors, reacted to the game on Sunday's edition of The Gary Neville Podcast.

Here, he paid tribute to Hojlund and suggested the Danish striker looked like an "Erling Haaland in the making” before praising his power, strength and aggression in forward areas.

He also applauded Luton for their efforts against Erik ten Hag's side.

At the end of Sunday's podcast with fellow commentator Peter Drury, Neville decided to mention his slightly awkward encounter with one of the world's most famous musicians, Harry Styles.

The 49-year-old opened up on failing to recognise Styles after thinking he was an owner at Luton.

“I’ve got to get into the studio and try and resurrect the fact I didn’t recognise Harry Styles before the game because I’ve never seen him dress so smartly," Neville explained.

“He walked in with the Luton owners and I thought he was actually one of the director’s sons.

“[Did he recognise me?] No! Not that I’d want him to recognise me, he’s a United fan so he may have done.

“I’m totally embarrassed, I’m shocked. My two girls will be horrified, mortified with me. I’m really sorry Harry, I really am.”

Harry Styles would also make a brief appearance in the Super Sunday studio ahead of kick-off.

And much to the delight of Jamie Redknapp, Curtis Davies and Tom Lockyer, he took the time to chat with the three-man punditry team.

In fact, presenter Dave Jones joked he had "never seen Jamie Redknapp move so fast" as the panel grabbed a quick selfie with the 30-year-old British singer.

Redknapp, meanwhile, hit back with a quip of his own.

"Yeah, watch you here now," he said, analysing the footage. "Look how thirsty you get when he walks past you."

The former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder then put on a high pitched voice to mock his Sky colleague. "'Oh can I have some tickets please?' Yeah, do one mate."
