Erik ten Hag spotted in deep conversation with Ralf Rangnick’s only Man Utd signing

Erik ten Hag spotted in deep conversation with Ralf Rangnick’s only Man Utd signing

Erik ten Hag did the same with Kobbie Mainoo after the Carabao Cup final in his first season.

Erik ten Hag was spotted in deep conversation with Ralf Rangnick's only Manchester United signing after winning the FA Cup on Saturday.

Ten Hag's side finished a disappointing domestic campaign with silverware, as first-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo secured victory over Manchester City at Wembley.

Jeremy Doku bagged a late consolation but United avenged last season's FA Cup final loss to qualify for next season's Europa League and deny City a domestic double.

Ten Hag has won a trophy in both seasons in charge and he did the same thing on the Wembley turf after the pair of wins.

He was in animated discussions with a young player who did not feature in the final.

In February 2023, the Dutchman shared a warm embrace with Mainoo, who hadn't yet fully exploded onto the scene but was part of the celebrations.

Fast forward to May 2024 and the England international was a goalscorer and Man of the Match award recipient as United won the FA Cup.

This time, it was the turn of Toby Collyer to share a special moment with Ten Hag.

The 20-year-old joined in March 2022 from Brighton as the only signing of Ralf Rangnick's brief tenure at Old Trafford.

Rangnick recommended the likes of Luis Diaz, Christopher Nkunku and Erling Haaland but the only addition during his time there was midfielder/centre-back Collyer.

Collye is still searching for his first first-team appearance for United, having mainly played for the Under 21 side since penning a three-year deal.

But did play for the first-team against Wrexham in San Diego in pre-season and became a regular in training with the senior squad.

After impressing in an Under 21 game against West Brom, he was named on the bench against Crystal Palace.

An all-action midfielder who is said to have incredible work-rate and covers around 13 km per game.

Speaking about Collyer in February, Ten Hag said: "He showed some good stuff and he showed some potential."
