Erik ten Hag might regret axing one Manchester United flop last year following an impressive season for the player.

It's almost two years since Ten Hag was appointed manager of United, and it's fair to say that things haven't really gone to plan.

While the Dutch coach ended the club's trophy drought and returned them to the Champions League in his first season, this term United are on course for a lowest Premier League finish in over 30 years.

With no real structure above Ten Hag on the footballing side of things, the Dutch coach has had a major say on recruitment.

The results have been at best mixed, with the potential displayed by Rasmus Hojlund and Lisandro Martinez outweighed by the struggles of Antony, Sofyan Amrabat, Tyrell Malacia and, after a solid first season, Casemiro.

Ten Hag has worked to clear dead wood at Old Trafford, but he might regret getting rid of Alex Telles.

United signed the Brazilian left-back for £13.6 million in 2020, but he struggled to earns minutes ahead of Luke Shaw.

In May 2022 Telles was involved in a training ground bust-up with youngster Hannibal Mejbri, which resulting in then-manager Ralf Rangnick ending training early.

After Telles spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Sevilla, where he won the Europa League, he linked up with Cristiano Ronaldo when he was sold to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

It has been a frustrating season for Al-Nassr, who last weekend conceded the title race to Al-Hilal despire winning 25 of their 31 league games.

Despite that, supporters have been pleased with Telles' performances during his debut season.

Replying to a video of Telles' highlights shared on X, one fan commented: "He has been by far the best player from that transfer window with [Marcelo] Brozovic and Otavio."

Another fan claimed "he is better than many Man Utd players and the hyped Aymeric Laporte," who joined Al-Nassr from Manchester City last year.

Other fans commented "I wasn't happy but now I can count on him," and "he's a team player."
