A Manchester United flop that fell out of favour with Erik ten Hag has had the contract signed with his new club terminated a year after joining.

Since becoming United manager in April 2022, Ten Hag has overseen the departures of several big players at the club.

Most notably, Cristiano Ronaldo left Old Trafford in dramatic fashion after falling out with the Dutch manager 15 months after the striker returned to the club.

While Ronaldo went on to find success with Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, it has now been revealed that one player kicked out by Ten Hag has now been axed by his new club.

Alex Telles left United last July, joining Ronaldo at Al Nassr, who paid just £4million for the defender who was given a contract believed to be worth £7m a year.

But, just over a year later, Telles has had his contract with the club terminated by mutual consent.

The Brazilian has made 38 appearances for the Saudi side, but it is now believed that manager Luis Castro doesn't have Telles in his long-term plans and therefore, saw it fit to let him go.

The contract termination leaves Telles as a free agent, meaning he can negotiate with whoever he wants, as several clubs are already said to be interested.

Telles struggled to find regular minutes at United, making only 50 first team appearances during his three years at Old Trafford.

In his final season, the left-back played on loan for La Liga side Sevilla, who he made 38 appearances for in the 2022/23 season that saw them win the Europa League.

With Ten Hag already not keen on Telles, a reported fight with teammate Hannibal Mejbri was said to be the final straw that led to his departure from the club three years after joining from Porto for a fee of £13.6m.

In a statement on the club website after Telles was sold, Manchester United wrote: "We'd like to thank Alex for his contributions to the club over the last three years and would like to wish him all the best for the future."
