Manchester United have informed Atalanta that they will not proceed with a deal to sign Ederson, with the proposed move now considered to have 'collapsed', according to reports.
Ederson was expected to join United this summer in a deal worth £35 million plus £4 million in add-ons.
The 26-year-old midfielder is said to have agreed personal terms with the Premier League club and was set to sign a four-year contract with an option to extend his stay for an additional 12 months.
A report from Sky Sports in June claimed a deal had been expected to go through before July, subject to Ederson completing a medical at Old Trafford, but it appears the move has collapsed.

After Brazil were eliminated from the World Cup on Sunday, it was widely reported that United requested that the midfielder undergo extra intensive medical tests before giving the all-clear.
It is said those tests were completed over the last 48 hours, but Fabrizio Romano has now claimed the proposed transfer will no longer happen.
Taking to X on Friday night, he wrote: "Ederson to Manchester United, deal OFF and considered as collapsed as Man Utd informed Atalanta.
"Atalanta believe Ederson is 100% fit and will welcome the midfielder back as part of their squad, as Man United changed their plans. Ederson won’t join Manchester United."

Ederson's move to Manchester United in doubt over knee injury, says separate report
United are concerned about a knee injury that Ederson is said to be carrying, according to a report from The Times, which suggests a deal has not fallen through just yet. Instead, the club will conduct further tests on the midfielder.

Ederson, meanwhile, has not been told whether the deal is going ahead but is 'desperate' to join United.
The departure of Casemiro, paired with the long-term absence of Manuel Ugarte, who suffered an ACL injury at the World Cup, has meant further reinforcements are needed in central areas.
Andrey Santos, meanwhile, is set to join Michael Carrick's side from Chelsea in a deal worth £48 million plus £2 million in add-ons. He is preparing to undergo a medical.
Man Utd add Manu Kone to transfer shortlist
So, who will United target next? A report from TEAMtalk suggests they are plotting a move for Roma and France midfielder Manu Kone after they were informed that he would like to test himself in England's top flight.
Crucially, the report claims that the Serie A giants are willing to sell him for around £50 million, with the 25-year-old emerging as a possible option after they missed out on Aurelien Tchouameni.
Sharing similar ball-winning and ball-carrying attributes to Tchouameni, Kone could be a more cost-effective option, and his performances at the World Cup have arguably piqued interest in his signature.
Kone made 37 appearances in all competitions last season as Roma qualified for the Champions League.
