Bruno Fernandes lands huge £9.5 million windfall to rise up Premier League player rich list

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes didn't have the World Cup he wanted with Portugal this summer but his 2025-26 season looks sure to have been lucrative enough to taken the edge off.

Fernandes is a big draw in the game and that comes with significant financial benefits off the pitch as well as hefty wages at club level.

The midfielder, who swept the board in terms of Player of the Year awards in 2025-26 and earns a reported wage of £300,000 a week as the top dog with the Red Devils, has a very productive off-pitch revenue stream in the form of image rights.

It can be assumed after a tremendous Premier League season that Fernandes' marketability has stayed at the level of the previous season, if not increased, so his 2024-25 image rights income is a significant clue as to what's to follow again this time next year.

"Bruno Fernandes earned over £9 million from his image rights during the 2024/25 season, according to accounts filed by BF8 Sports last month," reports the Manchester Evening News.

"The firm, founded in 2020 and listing Fernandes as its only director, made £9.5million during the period, an increase of £1.1 million from the previous 12 months.

"[It] also reduced costs by 44%, cutting over £200,000 from their tax and social security bill, leaving them with £9.2 million.

"That works out at around £176,000 per week."

Fernandes, now 31 and six years into what's become a storied spell in a difficult period at Old Trafford, has one year left on his Man Utd contract and a one-year option to extend.

The possibility of cashing in on the skipper's value has been a topic of some speculation over the last year, not least when a potential move to the Saudi Pro League was mooted in the January transfer window.

The Portugal man's stellar campaign soon put that to bed and the Evening News reports that he has been told that United are not entertaining any prospect of him leaving in the current transfer window.

His influence under interim head coach Michael Carrick, since appointed on a permanent basis as the successor to Fernandes' compatriot Ruben Amorim, makes the very idea of selling Fernandes seem very strange indeed. That importance is reflected in the value of his image rights.

United played just 40 competitive matches in 2025-26, losing at the first opportunity in both domestic cup competitions and devoid of European football after finishing in the lower reaches of the Premier League table in the season before.

Carrick unlocked a better run of form, steering them to third place and a return to the Champions League after two seasons away.

Fernandes broke the record for the number of assists by a player in a single Premier League season, setting up 21 goals to surpass Arsenal forward Thierry Henry's assist count of 20 in 2002-23.
