Bruno Fernandes slams VAR decisions vs Bournemouth that he 'doesn't understand'

Bruno Fernandes was left disappointed by the VAR after Manchester United's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

On Friday night, United arrived at the Vitality Stadium looking to further cement their place in the Premier League top four.

The Red Devils took the lead in the 61st minute after Fernandes netted from 12 yards.

Bournemouth levelled the match through Ryan Christie in the 67th minute before an own goal by James Hill put United back in front.

Inside the final 10 minutes, Bournemouth were awarded a penalty after Harry Maguire was sent off for fouling Evanilson.

Eli Kroupi Junior dispatched the spot kick to earn Bournemouth a 2-2 draw.

Speaking after the match, United captain Fernandes was left disappointed by some of the decisions made during the match.

The Portuguese was left wondering why VAR didn't get involved for Amad Diallo's penalty appeal. The United winger went down after a challenge by Adrien Truffert, and Bournemouth went up the other end and scored to make it 1-1.

Fernandes said to Sky Sports: "I think we could have gone 2-0 up, and then we ended up conceding a goal, not getting a penalty and then we get a penalty against, where more or less it's the same situation as Amad.

"One is rewarded as a penalty, the other one not. I know it's difficult for the referee to give two penalties in the same game for the same team but what I don't understand is why VAR doesn't get involved in that situation."


He added: "Either one is a penalty and the other one too or none of them is a penalty.

"What could be better is that in the next game we have to get three points that we didn’t get today. We need to go game by game because the Premier League is very tough."

Michael Carrick speaks out on 'baffling' decision

The United boss was unimpressed with the decision not to give a penalty after Diallo's appeal.

Carrick said: "We should have had another penalty. Obviously, if you get one, you must get the other.

"It’s pretty much identical for me, two-hand grab. Either way, he’s got one wrong, but to give one and not give the other, I can’t get my head around it, I think it’s crazy. It’s a bit baffling, really."

The Red Devils will be back in Premier League action on April 13 when they take on Leeds United at Old Trafford.
