Manchester United are preparing to offer one star player a new contract after he has impressed club officials in the season so far.

United got their season back on track over the weekend after they convincingly defeated newly-promoted Southampton 3-0 at St Mary's Stadium.

The result comes after United went into the first international break of the season with just one win, having lost matches to both Brighton and long-term rivals Liverpool.

However, despite their mixed start to the season, one player has impressed across the four matches and now, United are reportedly prepared to offer him a new contract to reward him for his excellent form.

A report from the Manchester Evening News claims that United will offer Amad Diallo a new contract in the coming months

Diallo is currently in the final year of his contract however, United have the option to extend the deal for additional year and therefore, can take their time in negotiations.

However, as they have been impressed with his performances in four out of five of United's matches this season so far, they are hoping that they can tie down the 22-year-old as soon as possible.

And if terms of a new deal cannot be agreed with Diallo and his representatives before the end of this year, then United will trigger the extension to prevent the youngster negotiating a pre-contract with another club in the January transfer window.

Negotiations over the deal should not be particularly challenging as Diallo has made it publicly clear that he would like to extend his time with the Manchester club and is considering spending his entire career there.

When asked about signing a new deal during pre season, he said: "Yeah, why not? I'm very happy here. I think everyone is happy with me because I smile with everyone, good energy. Why not stay here all my life?"

United signed the Ivorian footballer from Serie A side Atalanta in October 2020 for a reported fee of up to £37million.

Since then, he has gone on to make 26 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring four goals and assisting another three.
