Manchester United are braced for key talks with one of their players who has played out of position in pre-season, reports say.

The Red Devils have placed two games against Premier League opposition in pre-season, drawing 0-0 with Leeds United before beating West Ham 2-1 at the MetLife Stadium in New York.

Ruben Amorim's men will also meet Bournemouth and Everton across the pond prior to a final friendly with Fiorentina to wrap up their season preparations.

Three additions have been made in Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo but there's word on a potential exit from Old Trafford.

According to Chris Wheeler from the Daily Mail, midfielder Toby Collyer is set to speak with Amorim and director of football Jason Wilcox about his situation.

The midfielder, a 2022 signing from Brighton, played 13 times in a breakthrough campaign last season.

He typically plays in a deep midfield position but was used as one of the No.10's in the first friendly alongside Cunha against Leeds before reverting to his usual role in a substitute appearance against West Ham.

But with no European football and less games this season, the 21-year-old has admitted that he will hold conversations with United's top brass to determine the best solution for his development and whether the right move is to head on loan.

"My feeling at this moment is I want to stay," Collyer stated.

"First and foremost, I want to be here and play as many games for Man United as possible.

"I'll sit down with the manager and higher-ups and see what's the best solution; the best way for me to develop, whether it's stay here or go on loan.

"The end goal for me is to play as many minutes as possible here, hopefully starting every week. So yeah, I'll sit down with them and see what's the best solution for that. I'll just see how the next few weeks go and then we'll go over those conversations."

United are back in action on Thursday at Soldier Fold in Chicago but it will come too soon for £65 million man Mbeumo to make his debut for the club as he is still lacking match fitness.

“Bryan is starting slowly," Amorim explained.

"He is not going to play in the next one. We hope to have Bryan in the last game [in the United States]. He's training now, so we'll see."
