Manchester United star Aaron Wan Bissaka is set to be sidelined for an extended period.

It has been a tough start to the Premier League season for United after collecting just six points from a possible 15 in their first five matches.

Over the weekend, they are convincingly swept aside by Brighton and Hove Albion as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford, with sections of fans booing at the final whistle.

Now, it has been reported that Wan Bissaka is set to face a spell on the sidelines due to injury.

At first, it was reported by The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell that Wan Bissaka would be sidelined for as long as two months after picking up a new injury.

However, those fears have been eased by United, who revealed the extent of the injury on Monday afternoon.

The Old Trafford club said in a statement: "Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set for a period on the sidelines after sustaining an injury during the closing stages of Saturday’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

"The right-back came on as an 85th-minute substitute, having started the game on the bench after battling illness during the week."

It continued: "Further assessment will be needed to determine how long Wan-Bissaka will be out for, but initial indications suggest it will be several weeks.

"This is yet another untimely news for Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag as his injury list continues to grow ahead of their Champions League clash against German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich on Wednesday."
