Erik ten Hag cancelled sale of Man United star after 'board intervention'

Erik ten Hag cancelled sale of Man United star after 'board intervention'

He ended up staying at Man United.

Erik ten Hag made a stunning U-turn on a Manchester United star after a board intervention during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils made a host of new signings in the summer transfer window, snapping up the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

The Dutchman also trimmed his squad, axing the likes of Eric Bailly, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba.

Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and James Garner to name but a few also departed Old Trafford.

But Aaron Wan-Bissaka failed to secure a move away from Man United amid intense transfer speculation.

It's claimed that Ten Hag was ready to sanction a transfer, with Crystal Palace linked with a move for their former player.

However, the right-back ended up staying at Man United and The Athletic report that Ten Hag was urged to hold onto the player after a board intervention.

Ten Hag was reportedly told of the 24-year-old's capabilities, with the board believing he could improve under the Dutchman's tutelage.

The signing of a right-back was also not a priority for the Man United board, with Ten Hag thought to be keen on Barcelona's Sergino Dest.

Wan-Bissaka has featured just once under Ten Hag this season as he made a substitute appearance in his side's win over Liverpool last month.

The 52-year-old has opted for Diogo Dalot at right-back, with the Portuguese starting in each of his team's Premier League matches this season.
