Bruno Fernandes has leaped praise on his Manchester United teammate

Bruno Fernandes has named the teammate he thinks can lead Manchester United back to glory.

Erik ten Hag enjoyed a largely successful first season in charge of United after he led the Carabao Cup glory whilst also securing a place in next season’s Champions League.

During the summer transfer window, the Old Trafford have so far brought in two big-money signings in Mason Mount and Andre Onana.

Ahead of the new season, newly appointed United captain Fernandes has picked out Mount as the player to lead the club back to glory.

As per The Sun, he said: “We need that aggression and passion, we need players to be like that in games.

“These are the kind of players that I like to play against and even more to have in my side. Now, I will do everything I can to defend him.”

Fernandes added: “I said a couple of years ago that he is one of the best players in the Premier League. We’re really happy to have him here, wherever he plays, as a No 10, No 8 or a winger.

“He’s really good at pressing, he has a lot of energy and he’s really good on the ball. He has goals and assists in him too.

“We’re expecting a lot from him but he’s aware of that. He’s knows expectations will be big. He has a point to prove like everyone else."

On Wednesday, United were beated 2-0 by Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

After the match, Ten Hag said: “We conceded an injury [to Kobbie Mainoo] and then we conceded, quickly, a goal. I think, after that, we found ourselves in the game. I think it was head to head, although there is definitely room for improvement.

“I think the pressing could be better. We have done that much better against Arsenal. We can be more compact. On the ball, we can be calm. Nevertheless, we created chances. But we didn't score.”

United will be back in action on Monday when they take on Borussia Dortmund Allegiant Stadium in Nevada.
