Rodri has emerged as the bookie's favourite to be named UEFA Player of the Tournament at the Euros.

Spain progressed to the semi-finals of the 2024 European Championships as they defeated hosts Germany with a dagger blow in the closing seconds of extra time on Saturday.

The win puts Spain into pole position to win the tournament according to the bookies, ahead of fellow semi-finalists France, and England, who will hope to book their place in the next round on Saturday evening.

And Spanish midfielder Rodri has also moved to favourite to win the UEFA Player of the Tournament award.

The Manchester City defensive midfielder has been essential to Spain, who are the only team in the tournament to win all five of their matches.

"We have Rodri, who is a perfect computer," said Spain manager Luis de la Fuente.

"He administers everything, all the emotions, all the moments in a magisterial way; that's a great help for everyone."

The high praise has been echoed by City boss Pep Guardiola, who has described Rodri as the best in the world.

Guardiola said: "In his position, he is the best - he can do everything.

"The quality, he reads the game, his mentality, he is always ready.

"He is so good at many things...The presence, the physicality, he is complete."

Rodri’s teammate Lamine Yamal is second favourite to win the award as the 16-year-old winger has enjoyed a breakout season with Barcelona and Spain.

Yamal has been breaking records at Euro 2024, becoming the youngest ever player to play in the competition and the youngest ever to get an assist.

After making his debut in September last year, the youngster has made 12 appearances for Spain, scoring two goals in this time.

For La Liga club Barcelona, Yamal made 50 appearances in the 2023/24 season, scoring seven goals and registering ten assists.

England’s Jude Bellingham completes the top three favourites after his heroic overhead kick in injury time booked the Three Lions’ spot in the Euros quarterfinals.

Bellingham will hope to that he can produce similar heroics on Saturday evening, as England face Switzerland at 5pm BST, with the winners progressing to the semi-final.
