Phil Foden named the three toughest opponents he has faced.

Despite having only turned 24 in May, Foden is close to having made 300 first-team appearances for boyhood club Manchester City, while he has claimed some 43 England caps.

In turn, the six-time Premier League winner has come up against as a spate of the world’s best.

But speaking to the Times ahead of City’s Premier League encounter with league leaders Liverpool, Foden named the Merseysiders’ historic front-three of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah as the best player he’s ever played against.

“It’s hard to say one player, but if I had to say a team it would be Liverpool when Mane, Salah, Firmino, were together — their team was sensational.” he said.

“The way they pressed. That was the toughest game, when we used to play them. Over a long period, Liverpool have been the ones that challenged us the most.”

On the current iteration, Foden added: “They look frightening to be fair. They’ve gone under the radar a bit because everyone was talking about City and Arsenal but we know how good they are. [Sunday’s match] is going to be a challenge and we’re up for it.”

Elsewhere, Foden named David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne as the two most talented players he has played alongside.

“There are so many but I always say David [Silva], he was my idol and stuff,’ Foden said.

“But when I look at Kevin [De Bruyne], the numbers that he puts in, assists goals — I think those two are the most talented I’ve played with. Consistency as well. Never less than seven out of ten.”
