Mark Goldbridge has come up with a bizarre Man City theory behind the Premier League Player of the Season announcement.

On Thursday the Premier League revealed the nominees for the 2023-24 Player of the Season award, and of course the announcement sparked intense debate over who should take the prize.

Manchester City duo Phil Foden and Erling Haaland made the list after putting up impressive numbers this term, long with Arsenal pair Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

Former City starlet Cole Palmer has been rewarded for a breakout season at Chelsea, while Virgil van Dijk, Alexander Isak and Ollie Watkins complete the nominations.

Plenty of fans raised eyebrows over the exclusion of Man City midfielder Rodri, while some felt that Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon deserved recognition.

Never shy to share his take on hot topics, YouTuber and so-called Man United fan Mark Goldbridge took to X to share a wild theory about the selections of Foden and Haaland.

The graphic the Premier League shared as part of the nominees announcement included two rows of four players, with Foden and Haaland in the top left corner.

"Question! Why are Foden & Haaland top left?," Goldbridge asked his followers.

"Every marketer knows the human eye is drawn to the top left....no way either of them deserve it over Rice, Watkins, Isak or Palmer," he continued.

Ludicrous suggestion aside, the idea that neither Foden nor Haaland would be a worthy winner of the award is baffling.

Foden has enjoyed his best ever season in a sky blue shirt, scoring 16 goals and assisting eight more in 32 league outings while thriving in a more central role.

Haaland, while not performing at the level he was last season, is still this season's top scorer with 25 goals in 28 games.

Goldbridge followed up his tweet with a GIF of a man fishing, which gives you a good idea about the motivation behind much of his content.
