Manchester City fans took aim at two of their own players on social media after their 2-1 FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United.

City were favourites to win their second consecutive FA Cup against the same team they defeated in last year's final.

But Erik ten Hag's side ripped up the script early on, with a long ball causing chaos in the City defence before Alejandro Garnacho ran in to tap the ball over the line.

Kobbie Mainoo then made it 2-0, finishing off a superb team move from close range to give United the advantage going into half-time.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana then made a series of crucial saves in the second half, while Erling Haaland came close when he hit the bar.

Jeremy Doku then scored late on to give City hope, but United held on to end their season with a trophy.

But it was an off-day for Haaland in terms of finding the back of the net, with Kevin De Bruyne also substituted on 56 minutes after enduring a difficult afternoon at Wembley.

And both players were criticised online by City fans.

One wrote: "De Bruyne was awful, probably still slightly injured."

Another said: "Absolute disasterclass."

A third added: "Martinez winning headers against Haaland feels poor to say the least."

A fourth claimed: "They said De Bruyne is better than Kroos and Modric."

City, though, still ended the season with their fourth consecutive Premier League trophy - although the loss at Wembley will be a damaging one for Pep Guardiola and his side in their pursuit of ending the campaign in the perfect possible way.

For United and Erik ten Hag, questions will remain about the Dutchman's future in charge - but he has done those chances no harm whatsoever with a superb tactical approach and performance at Wembley.
