Fans have been left stunned after learning that Manchester City reportedly have more than the 115 charges levelled against them by the Premier League.

The charges relate to alleged breaches of financial rules, largely relating to the Premier League.

They spread across a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018. City strenuously deny all the charges and say they have 'irrefutable evidence' that proves their innocence.

A hearing will begin next Monday, with a verdict not expected to be announced until the end of the current season. City and the Premier League can both appeal the verdict if required.

According to The Times, the club are actually facing a total of 130 charges - although this is said to be an error with the Premier League's reporting process at the time rather than any additional serious charges.

It is said that there were confusion relating to some of the rules listed in relation to particular seasons, and the Premier League subsequently corrected the number of charges to 130.

Former City financial advisor Stefan Borson told the BBC that the 115 charges listed are the most serious against City - with the remainder forming the Premier League's correction.

He said: "115 is actually, straightaway, 130.

"But because of an early error from the Premier League and early media briefings, it became 115. It's the most serious allegations."

SPORTbible has contacted the Premier League for comment.

The topic was brought up again via a Community Note on Twitter - with fans reacting in shock to the news.

One wrote: "Wait, what?! That community note just hit me for a six."

A second added: "Community note is killing me."

Another simply wrote: "130!"

The charges levelled against City largely revolve around alleged failures to provide accurate and up-to-date financial information, a failure to co-operate with Premier League investigations - which is believed to make up the additional charges - and failure to provide accurate financial reports for player and manager compensation.

There are also charges over alleged breaches of the Premier League's PSR rules.
