Man City Premier League title win bets impacted after 115 charges verdict

News of Manchester City's 115 charges verdict has led to Paddy Power issuing the biggest ever bet refund.

City were charged with 115 financial breaches by the Premier League back in February 2023 but it took until September 2026 for a verdict to be released following a three-month hearing involving an independent commission.

On Friday, David Ornstein of The Athletic broke the news that City had been found guilty on 114 out of the 115 charges.

While no sanctions have been decided and the club are set to appeal the verdict, all potential punishments are poised to be on the table.

Irish bookmakers Paddy Power reacted by announcing a monumental bet refund. In a viral post on social media, they announced that they had refund all outright bets on teams that finished second to Manchester City over eight seasons.

City's charges relate to a period between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons. In that time, they won the league for the first time in 44 years in 2011/12 before adding further triumphs in 2013/14 and 2017/18 - the latter with a record century points tally under Pep Guardiola.

Paddy Power's bet refund extends to all of City's eight Premier League title wins. Under their directive, Manchester United and Liverpool are both champions on three occasions, with Arsenal winning in 2022/23 and 2023/24 prior to finally getting over the line last term.

Man City issue strongly-worded statement as potential punishments emerge

City have maintained their innocence throughout and said they have "body of irrefutable evidence" that would prove they are not guilty.

The club have not posted on their official channels, instead carrying on as normal by posting a compilation of Rayan Cherki.

However, a statement was published by multiple media outlets.

A spokesperson for City said: "The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the Club’s statement of February 2023.

"The Club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League Board and Executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence."

Rule W.51 in the Premier League handbook states that fines, points deductions and even a potential expulsion from the Premier League could be used as sanctions.

It's understood that retrospective punishments are a possibility, with Rio Ferdinand claiming he will be due an additional Premier League medal from 2012.

Similarly, Jose Mourinho has said he ought to be given a fourth medal in the event City are found guilty.
