Everton went out on a limb to bring Manchester City's Jack Grealish to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on an expensive loan deal but they couldn't have asked for a better start.
Grealish has produced four assists in two Premier League matches, helping the Toffees to wins over Brighton & Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers either side of a Carabao Cup second round win over Mansfield Town.
The former Aston Villa captain joined City for £100 million in 2021, going on to collect the anticipated silverware but also being reduced in the eyes of many observers to a shadow of the maverick star he'd become at his boyhood club.

Grealish's relationship with City manager Pep Guardiola deteriorated and his lack of involvement last season left the England international in an untenable spot at the Etihad Stadium.
Various clubs expressed an interest in Grealish in the current summer transfer window but even a loan represents a massive investment and a significant risk.
Grealish hasn't been in his best form and has always been susceptible to a niggling injury or two, and there's no guarantee that David Moyes can help unlock the old Grealish on Merseyside.

But the 29-year-old has made a terrific start at his new club and fans have reacted to an Instagram post stating that he's loving life in Liverpool.
"Ahhh really enjoying it!!" posted the ex-Villa man. "What a team and club."
City teammate Erling Haaland replied with "What a player" after the Norwegian's Stories post proclaiming Grealish "Jack De Bruyne" after his quad of Everton assists.

The very notion of enjoyment seems so at odds with Grealish's demeanour at City that fans have interpreted his tangible joy as a criticism of Guardiola.
"A club that deserves him and a club he loves," posted one user on X, formerly Twitter.
"Haaland has to be the most supportive mate you can have," said another.

One fan pointed out that: "He's been given the freedom to express himself on the pitch and the fans absolutely love him, perfect move for him, love it."
"Being freed from Guardiola's shackles must be a liberating feeling. Pep coaches creativity and flair out [of] players," suggested another commenter.
"Pleased for Jack I must admit," admitted another. "Now he isn’t being used as a box ticker for squad registration he can play football properly again."
